The Middle School Blog Chief Editors: Alice, Deeka and Chloe H

Hello students and parents! The Middle School Blog is run by a group of Year 9 students who are very passionate about writing and journalism. Our blog will cover many topics from issues affecting the youth of today to fun recipes and activity ideas. We hope you will enjoy reading our digital publication each fortnight.

This fortnight, let’s begin with introductions:

Chief Editors

Greetings! My name is Alice and I am part of the best homeroom FO5. I always have the most random thoughts and ideas so I’m excited to share them all with you on this blog. Some things to know about me are that I love STEM, debating, playing the piano and listening to classical music. I also have a freakishly good memory for random facts so if you ever need to know all 27 cloud types, you know who to call. When I’m not in my room listening to music and scrolling through Reddit, you’ll find me looking for a good recipe and healthy snacks. I am also very interested in issues with our world today such as consumerism and climate change so it shouldn’t really come as a surprise that my favourite subject is Humanities. The blog team and I are very excited to start writing for you. I hope that you enjoy reading what we share.

Hi everyone, I’m Deeka and I’m from FO1. I love cooking, horse riding, motorbike riding, listening to things people have to say and helping people talk through their problems. If you ever need a simple and quick recipe, I’m your girl. If you ever have a problem and need to talk to someone, I am here for you. If you have a pet and want to talk about he/she (I love pets), I’m up for a chat. I am passionate about climate change and I believe Greta Thunberg is leading women into this discussion. My favourite subject is Science, especially Chemistry and Biology. This is because I would like to become a pharmacist and aid people with medicine. Everyone part of the ‘Blog Squad’ can’t wait to release our articles throughout the year.

My name is Chloe S, I’m in Year 9 and I am a part of the wonderful homeroom MK4. I am really excited to start working on the blog and I can’t wait to share my passions with you all! Some things that you should know about me are that I have been playing piano for nearly 7 years and I have a big interest in graphic design. Reading is a big part of my life and I wouldn’t stop for the world. I enjoy playing basketball, I love musicals and my absolute dream job is to be an actor but I’m also happy to be a graphic designer. I have seen/read a lot of pop culture so I am always up for a chat about anything from superheroes to wizards to demigods etc. I’ve done lots of overseas travel and one of my personal favourite countries I’ve visited has to be Japan (I still love everywhere else I have been). My favourite subjects are Home Economics and English. If I could have any other pet, other than my adorable dog Rosey, it would be a bunny. I have a passion for women’s equality and social justice issues in today’s society so I’m hoping you will feel empowered by my writing.

My name is Sheyana, I’m in Year 9 and I’m a part of the wonderful homeroom of DP5. I absolutely love to bake, sing and spend time with friends and family. I’m probably one of the shortest people you may come across and the best way to spot me is by my long and fuzzy hair. I love getting involved in cultural programs. I’m currently in the Junior Bridgettes and College Choir and was a former member of Junior Choir. My favourite subjects consist of Business and Home Economics. I’m super excited and over the moon to be a part of publishing and producing not only helpful tips and recipes but to make the blog for 2020 the best that it can be. My dream job is to become a Lawyer. It’s my dream and I’m hoping to make that dream become a reality in 10 or so years. I hope that you all will enjoy the blog that these amazing girls and I have planned for you. Have fun, stay confident and be kind.

My name is Kudzai. I am in FO2 (just the best homeroom in the school). Here are a few things you should know about me.  I love spending time with my family and going on random trips with my friends. I love baking – I definitely got my love for baking from my aunt. My favourite sport is Rugby and my favourite Australian team is the Reds. My favourite international teams are the South African team, Springboks and the New Zealand team, All Blacks. I absolutely love travelling and it is something I really am interested in posting about on here as well. On a Saturday during the day, you’ll find me shopping (definitely got my addiction from my mum) or going to Goma with my friends and checking out all the cool art and exhibitions. At night you’ll find me in trackies binge-watching Netflix shows. My favourite subjects at school are Art, Business and Science. I am a huge music lover and some of my favourite artists are Tame Impala, Drake , AJR, Khalid, Post Malone, Brockhampton and Mallrat. I am so excited to be a part of the 2020 Blog Squad. I hope I can be someone that you can always talk to and be able to lean on. I am always here with a listening ear and try my hardest to make you laugh. I can’t wait to post about study tips, fun things to do on the weekends with your friends and much more.

Hey everyone, I’m Elianne and I’m from DP5! Here are a few things that you should now about me: I love to play Water Polo and get active. I enjoy being around my friends and doing fun activities like shopping, baking, spending time play a sport and of course eating. I come from an Italian background and love to embrace my heritage. My Nonna (Grandma in Italian) is even teaching me how to make gnocchi and gelato! On the weekends, I’m usually surrounded by homework but when I’m not doing that, I enjoy playing with my dogs Leni and Koko. I also enjoy going for a swim on a hot day, reading, watching Netflix and listening to music. At the moment, my favourite artists are Doja Cat, The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande and Ruel. My favourite subjects this year are HPE, Science and Maths. At school, you will see me get involved in as much as I can. I am already taking on a role in the Middle School and am also a Junior Bridgette, swimmer and a member of the Environment Club. I am also very passionate about plastic pollution which you will hear about later in another blog post and feminism/equality. In the future, I hope to become involved in the medical field; either as a physiotherapist of biomechanic. I can’t wait to write more articles for the blog and listen to want you want us to write about. Most importantly, if you see me around the College, don’t be afraid to say hi!

I’m Lilly-Anne and I’m a part of the amazing homeroom DP6! Here are a couple of things about myself. I LOVE dancing; it has been a big part of my life ever since I was about 4 and I learn all the different genres. I adore my friends and family. I have a very big, extended family and I love having gatherings because there is always lots of food! Some of my favourite pastimes are shopping (I love clothes and trying out different styles), reading and of course dancing. I come from an Irish background and one day I really want to visit Ireland. Being in Year 9 means that the work is harder and there’s more of it so on the weekends, when I’m not dancing, it’s homework time. Usually when I’m studying, I like listening to music in the background as it makes something like homework a bit more enjoyable. Some of my favourite artists are Conan Grey, Doja Cat, Rhianna, OneRepublic and QUEEN! At the College, I’m involved in a number of groups such as the Senior Dance Ensemble. Over the next few terms, I would love hearing what you want to see in the blog and how we can make it even better. Always remember that when you are kind to others it not only changes you but it changes the world 😊.
